With more than 150 pupils, Marie School is growing quickly. A new sports field, official registration and stronger organisational support mark an important new chapter.
Playground and Sports Field
A large plot beside the school was purchased to give the children space to run and play. Village youth helped clear the land, a bulldozer levelled it, and the field officially opened on 17 May with a community celebration and inaugural football match. The Chikola Boys won 3-0.
The field also offers room for netball. Trees and a water supply are planned as funds allow.
Weekly Egg Day
Since Easter, the children have received an egg once a week through the lunch programme. “Egg Day” has become a joyful highlight, with children singing “Mayai, mayai” on their way to the dining hall.
Official Registration
After several months of work, the school received its official registration in June—an essential milestone for its future development.
Stronger Organisation
The Friends’ Association of Marie-Rose Pre and Primary School has been founded in Switzerland. In Tanzania, work is under way to establish the Chikola Education Group, ensuring the school rests on a solid organisation rather than belonging to one individual.
Teacher Training
Head teacher Tekla attended a Montessori course and is bringing new ideas and locally made materials into the kindergarten as the team works toward becoming a model school.
Visit to Switzerland
In early September, Lameck Komba and Daniel Haule will visit Switzerland to review progress, share their experiences and discuss the school’s next stages.
Call for Electronics Donations
We are looking for functional phones, tablets and laptops that are no longer being used. These devices would greatly support our work in Tanzania. If you have equipment you would like to donate, please get in touch with us.
